What about the Glasgow Girls?

The Glasgow girls is a name which has become associated with an array of women artists, designers and craft workers, who studied at Glasgow School of Art and worked in Glasgow at the end of the 19th and early part of the 20th century. Some like Katherine Cameron or Bessie MacNicol are also linked to the Glasgow Boys. Others like Annie French as well as Catherine Cameron and Margaret MacDonald are associated with Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whom Margaret married in 1900.

A number of the Glasgow Girls had strong connections with Kirkcudbright. Bessie MacNicol had painted Hornel there and Chris Fergusson taught at Kirkcudbright Academy in 1905 and 1906. Jessie King, who settled at the Green Gate on her return from France in 1915, provided accommodation for many artists in the Green Gate close.
