Recessional Aesthetics

The Interim Exhibition

It was noted that the work in the Hatton Gallery reflected the economically unstable times...

My work was amongst the works displayed in the Hatton Gallery. It was interesting to see how much of the work was displayed on the floor rather than using plinths and alot of the materials used were cheap. I'm unsure as to whether i disagree or agree with this statement...  It wasn't a conscious aesthetic choice and I think it says more about how skint we all are at the moment. We are all in our final year of a four year degree- already worrying about the expense of our final degree show- and have little money for extravagant materials. Food was struck of my list a long time ago. I can now fully appreciate the term starving artist- and it's not just because of money...I don't have time to eat any more. Thankfully I have a part time job in a chocolate shop!
